MND-MFHC Meige Syndrome
Multimodal Neuroimaging Dataset of Meige Syndrome
Structural, resting-state functional, diffusion and arterial spin labeling brain MRI of patients with primary Meige syndrome (blepharospasm-oromandibular dystonia), collected to study its neural mechanisms, with MRIQC quality reports.
Overview
Brain MRI of 31 patients with primary Meige syndrome, a cranial dystonia that combines blepharospasm with oromandibular dystonia, scanned at the China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing. It is the Meige syndrome part of MND-MFHC, a release that also covers people with facial paralysis and healthy controls so that researchers can study how disorders of facial movement relate to brain structure and function. The other two groups sit in separate Science Data Bank records (doi:10.57760/sciencedb.10796 for facial paralysis, doi:10.57760/sciencedb.10872 for the controls). The record belongs to the Chinese Color Nest Project data community.
Composition
The record holds 31 right-handed patients, 23 of them women, aged 31 to 74 years (mean 58.32, SD 9.60). Patients were enrolled prospectively through the Department of Neurosurgery. A senior neurosurgeon confirmed the diagnosis by standard clinical criteria. Patients had normal conventional MRI, no treatment in the three months before scanning and complete MRI without artifacts. Other brain lesions, neuropsychiatric disorders, severe heart, lung, liver or kidney disease and other forms of dystonia led to exclusion. Each patient folder follows BIDS with anat, func, dwi and perf subfolders, and a second folder holds per-subject MRIQC reports. The descriptor states that age, sex and clinical assessments are included; severity was rated with the Burke-Fahn-Marsden Dystonia Rating Scale movement part and the Blepharospasm Disability Index.
Acquisition
All scans were made on one GE MR750 3 T scanner with a fixed protocol: a 1 mm T1-weighted structural image, an 8-minute resting-state BOLD run (TR 2000 ms, 240 volumes), diffusion imaging with 64 directions at b = 1000 plus b = 0, and arterial spin labeling. Faces in the structural images were masked before release.
Known limitations
- Access needs a signed data use agreement and approval by the hospital consortium, so the files cannot be inspected beforehand.
- The group is small and there are no controls in this record; they are in the separate controls record.
- The descriptor reports quality control exclusions for its own analyses but gives no number for the Meige syndrome group and does not say whether any files are left out of the release.
