MND-MFHC Healthy Controls

Multimodal Neuroimaging Dataset of Healthy Controls

Structural, resting-state functional, diffusion and arterial spin labeling brain MRI of healthy community volunteers aged 3 to 84, collected as the control group for studies of Meige syndrome and facial paralysis, with MRIQC quality reports.

Overview

Brain MRI of 102 healthy volunteers scanned at the China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing. It is the control part of MND-MFHC, a release that sets these volunteers beside patients with facial paralysis and with Meige syndrome so that brain differences linked to disorders of the facial nerve can be studied. The two patient groups sit in separate Science Data Bank records (doi:10.57760/sciencedb.10796 for facial paralysis, doi:10.57760/sciencedb.09677 for Meige syndrome). The record belongs to the Chinese Color Nest Project data community.

Composition

The record holds 102 controls, 65 of them women, aged 3 to 84 years (mean 43.58, SD 19.75). Volunteers came from local communities. The descriptor requires no psychiatric or neurological disorder, no lesion on routine MRI, a normal neurological examination, right-handedness and a complete scan without artifacts. Each subject folder follows BIDS with anat, func, dwi and perf subfolders, and a separate folder holds per-subject MRIQC reports. Age and sex are part of the release.

Acquisition

All scans used one GE MR750 3 T scanner with the same protocol as the patient groups: a 1 mm T1-weighted structural image, an 8-minute resting-state BOLD run (TR 2000 ms, 240 volumes), diffusion imaging with 64 directions at b = 1000 plus b = 0, and arterial spin labeling with cerebral blood flow maps. Faces in the structural images were masked before release.

Known limitations

  • Access needs a signed data use agreement and two approval steps, so the files cannot be inspected beforehand.
  • The age range starts at 3 years, but the descriptor gives no age breakdown, so the number of children is unknown.
  • In the descriptor's own analyses, 12 controls were dropped by its quality assessment (image-quality outliers and resting-state head motion), leaving 90. It does not say whether their files are left out of the release; the record describes 102.
  • All data come from one scanner at one site.
