SpineWeb Dataset 7 (IVD T2 TSE MRI)

SpineWeb Dataset 7 is a small MRI collection for locating and segmenting the intervertebral discs of the lower spine. It was contributed to SpineWeb, a collection of spine imaging datasets, by Guoyan Zheng of the Institute for Surgical Technology and Biomechanics at the University of Bern. It is described only by a short SpineWeb entry, which cites no paper. The same group published a disc localization and segmentation method in IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging in 2015 (Chen et al.), validated on 3D T2-weighted turbo spin echo images of 35 patients from two studies; neither the paper abstract nor the SpineWeb entry says whether the 15 released patients are drawn from that cohort.

Composition

15 anonymized patients, one 3D T2-weighted turbo spin echo volume each. Every volume shows at least 7 intervertebral discs, covering the levels from T11 to L5. Images and masks are NIfTI files, with one mask volume per patient. The page gives no age, sex or diagnosis information.

Acquisition

All patients were scanned on a 1.5 T Siemens Magnetom Sonata. Sequence parameters, voxel size and scan sites are not stated on the page.

Annotations

Each disc has a manual reference segmentation, delivered as one binary mask volume per patient. The page does not say who drew the masks or how they were checked.

Known limitations

• Very small: 15 patients from one scanner model and one sequence.
