QIN-PROSTATE
QIN PROSTATE (Quantitative Imaging Network prostate multiparametric MRI)
Multiparametric 3 T prostate MRI (T1w, T2w, DWI and DCE, endorectal coil) of 22 prostate cancer patients from Brigham and Women's Hospital, shared on TCIA for quantitative DCE analysis. TCIA retired the collection in April 2026.
Overview
QIN-PROSTATE is a small collection of multiparametric prostate MRI exams from Brigham and Women's Hospital, contributed by the group of Fiona Fennessy within the NCI Quantitative Imaging Network (grant U01 CA151261). The Cancer Imaging Archive published it in 2014 to support the development and testing of quantitative methods for characterizing prostate cancer. Its authors used part of it to compare pharmacokinetic models of dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI. TCIA retired the collection on 13 April 2026, so the images can no longer be downloaded from the archive.
Composition
The collection covers 22 patients with prostate cancer. The MRI protocol includes T1-weighted, T2-weighted, diffusion-weighted and DCE series. Study, series and image counts, demographics and the download size are not shown on the collection page since its retirement. A subset of 17 patients with histologically confirmed cancer was analysed by Fedorov et al. (2014); that subset had a mean age of 58 years (range 42 to 74) and Gleason scores from 3+3 to 4+5. The age and grade of the whole collection are not reported.
Acquisition
All exams were acquired at 3 T on a GE Signa HDx scanner with an 8-channel abdominal array combined with an endorectal coil. T1-weighted images used a spoiled gradient echo sequence and T2-weighted images a fast recovery fast spin echo sequence, both over a 16 cm field of view. Diffusion was measured with echo planar imaging at b-values of 0 and 500 s/mm², suitable for an ADC map. The DCE series used a 3D spoiled gradient echo sequence covering the whole gland with reconstructed voxels of 1×1×6 mm and a frame interval of roughly 5 seconds. About five frames were recorded before gadopentetate dimeglumine (0.15 mmol/kg) was injected at 3 ml/s.
Annotations
The collection page lists no segmentations or other annotations. In the 2014 study, an abdominal radiologist outlined tumor regions of interest in 3D Slicer, but these are not described as part of the shared collection.
Known limitations
- The collection is retired and no longer distributed by TCIA, and its license is no longer shown on the collection page.
- Single site, single scanner and a small cohort.
- No clinical or pathology data are described for the full collection.
License and access
Our reading of the license, not legal advice. Before you use the data, read the original license and confirm that your use is allowed. We take no responsibility for how you use a dataset. Full disclaimer
The data are not available outside the institution or study that holds them
The collection page states that the dataset was retired on 2026-04-13 and its Data Access table no longer lists any download. The collection is not returned by the public TCIA NBIA API.
No published license or data use terms
The data holder has published no license and no data use terms. Any use, sharing or commercial right has to be agreed with the data holder, and nothing can be assumed to be allowed. Default copyright and data protection law still apply.
TCIA lists the license of each collection in its Data Access table, which is empty for this retired collection. The page still requires the data citation and links the TCIA Data Usage Policy (https://www.cancerimagingarchive.net/data-usage-policies-and-restrictions/). The license under which the data were distributed before retirement could not be confirmed from a current official source.
