Precision Imaging Parkinson's Disease (PIPD)
Precision Imaging Parkinson's disease (PIPD) dataset
Structural and resting-state functional brain MRI of people with Parkinson's disease and healthy controls, collected to map how subcortical targets of Parkinson's treatments connect to the motor cortex. Five resting-state runs per person; files withdrawn from public access, available on request.
Overview
The PIPD dataset holds brain MRI from people with Parkinson's disease and healthy controls scanned at Henan Provincial People's Hospital in Zhengzhou, China. It was built by Changping Laboratory and the hospital's imaging department to study resting-state functional connectivity in Parkinson's disease, and it is the main cohort of a Nature paper that links the substantia nigra and the deep brain stimulation targets to the somato-cognitive action network of the motor cortex. The record on Science Data Bank was released in November 2025 under CC0, but its files were later withdrawn following hospital requirements. Access now goes through the corresponding authors.
Composition
The paper analyses 166 patients with a clinical diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (64 women, 102 men, mean age 61.8 years) and 60 healthy controls (34 women, 26 men, mean age 56.1 years). Of 180 recruited patients, four did not finish scanning and ten were dropped for head motion above 0.2 mm; 11 of 71 controls were dropped for the same reason. Patients with previous deep brain stimulation or ablation, or another neurological disorder, were excluded. The record lists 9,501 files with about 440 GB in total, but it does not say which participants are included.
Acquisition
All scans come from one Siemens Prisma 3 T scanner with a 64-channel head coil. Each session has one MP2RAGE T1-weighted scan at 1 mm isotropic resolution and five resting-state BOLD runs of 6 min 14 s each (gradient-echo EPI, TR 2 s, 2.2 mm isotropic), with eyes open. The record says it also holds clinical information, which is not itemized.
Known limitations
The files are not publicly downloadable, and no terms for data shared on request are published. Controls are younger on average than the patients; the paper drew a matched subset of 65 patients for case-control comparisons. The subject counts here are those of the analysed sample and may differ from the deposit.

The Science Data Bank record was published under CC0 1.0, but its files have since been withdrawn from public access. The record now states that, following hospital requirements, the dataset is not available for public access and that requests go to the corresponding authors of the paper. No terms are published for data shared on request, so the CC0 label is not taken to apply to them.
