11C-methionine PET and DWI in operated gliomas (Humanitas)

Dataset related to article "The role of 11C-methionine PET in patients with negative diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging: correlation with histology and molecular biomarkers in operated gliomas"

Preoperative amino acid PET and diffusion-weighted brain MRI of glioma patients from one Milan-area centre, used to compare methionine uptake and diffusion for grading, molecular profiling and progression-free survival against histopathology. 124 patients. Access restricted.

Overview

A single-centre glioma cohort from the nuclear medicine and neurosurgery groups at Humanitas Clinical and Research Hospital in Rozzano, near Milan, with the University of Milan. Patients due for brain tumour surgery had 11C-methionine PET and diffusion-weighted MRI as part of their preoperative work-up. The study asked how well each test separates high-grade from low-grade glioma, how methionine uptake relates to IDH and 1p/19q status when diffusion imaging looks unremarkable, and whether PET measures predict progression-free survival. The authors deposited the underlying data as a restricted Zenodo record.

Composition

124 consecutive patients were included. Histopathology, the reference standard, showed 47 high-grade and 77 low-grade gliomas. Median follow-up was 14.3 months. Sex and age distributions are not given in the abstract or the Zenodo record.

Acquisition

Every patient had 11C-methionine PET and diffusion-weighted MRI before surgery. PET was read visually and with semiquantitative measures: maximum standardised uptake value, a tumour-to-background uptake ratio and metabolic tumour burden. Scanner models, field strength, injected activity and diffusion protocol are not described in the public sources used here.

Annotations

Each patient has a histological diagnosis and grade, molecular markers including IDH mutation and 1p/19q codeletion, and progression-free survival from follow-up. No image segmentations are described.

Known limitations

The Zenodo record lists no files and describes its content only as raw data related to the article, so it is unclear whether PET and MR images are included or only the derived readings. The article's full text could not be opened, so its data availability statement and acquisition details were not checked. All patients come from one Italian centre. Access depends on the depositors approving a request.

Access
On request

Ask the authors or the data holder. No published process or terms, and access is at their discretion

The Zenodo record is restricted and lists no files. Access is requested through the record's form; its stated condition is that the raw data are accessible on request because they include sensitive data. Whether the record holds PET and MR images or only the visual and semiquantitative readings is not stated.
