INDI Beijing Eyes Open Eyes Closed
Beijing Normal University Eyes Open Eyes Closed Sample (INDI)
Three resting-state fMRI runs per participant, one eyes closed and two randomized between eyes open and eyes closed, plus T1-weighted MPRAGE and 64-direction DTI, from 48 healthy students at Beijing Normal University.
Overview
The Beijing Eyes Open Eyes Closed (EOEC) sample is an International Neuroimaging Data-sharing Initiative (INDI) release from Yu-Feng Zang's group at the State Key Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience and Learning, Beijing Normal University. It was announced in December 2010 as new, unpublished data. Because each person was scanned at rest under both eye conditions, the sample lets researchers test whether a resting-state measure picks up a known within-subject change in brain state.
Composition
There are 48 healthy participants from a student community sample. Each has three resting-state fMRI runs: the first always with eyes closed, the second and third in random order with eyes open or eyes closed. Every participant also has a defaced MPRAGE anatomical image and a 64-direction diffusion tensor scan. Demographics and the order of the eye conditions are included. The data come as two NIfTI archives.
Acquisition
The protocol printouts come from a Siemens MAGNETOM TrioTim. Resting-state runs use gradient-echo EPI with 33 interleaved axial slices of 3.5 mm, a 64 x 64 matrix over 200 mm, TR 2000 ms, TE 30 ms and 240 volumes. The sagittal MPRAGE has 128 slices of 1.33 mm, TR 2530 ms, TE 3.39 ms and TI 1100 ms. Diffusion images have 49 axial slices of 2.5 mm, TR 7200 ms, TE 104 ms, GRAPPA factor 2, b = 1000 s/mm² over 64 directions and one b = 0 image.
Annotations
There are no image labels. The phenotypic file records demographics and the eye condition of each run.
Known limitations
- The release page describes 6-minute resting-state runs, while the protocol printout lists 240 volumes at TR 2 s (about 8 minutes).
- The page calls the diffusion scan 2 mm isotropic, while the printout gives 1.8 x 1.8 x 2.5 mm voxels.
- Field strength, sex and age counts are not stated on the public pages.
