Methionine PET for glioblastoma radiotherapy (Humanitas)
Dataset related to article "Role of 11C Methionine Positron Emission Tomography (11CMETPET) for Surgery and Radiation Therapy Planning in Newly Diagnosed Glioblastoma Patients Enrolled into a Phase II Clinical Study"
Postoperative amino acid PET/CT and brain MRI of adults with newly diagnosed glioblastoma treated with hypofractionated radiotherapy and temozolomide in a phase II trial, used to relate methionine uptake to residual tumour, target volumes and survival. 93 patients. Data on request.
Overview
This single-centre cohort comes from a phase II trial at IRCCS Humanitas Research Hospital near Milan, Italy, in which adults with newly diagnosed glioblastoma had maximal safe surgery followed by hypofractionated radiotherapy with concurrent and adjuvant temozolomide. Before radiotherapy, each patient had a planning CT, brain MRI and [11C]methionine PET/CT. The analysis asked whether methionine uptake reveals residual tumour that MRI misses, whether it changes the radiotherapy target volumes, and whether uptake measures predict survival. The authors deposited the underlying data as a restricted Zenodo record.
Composition
Of 97 patients enrolled between August 2013 and April 2016, 93 had both MRI and methionine PET and form the cohort: 33 women and 60 men, median age 61 years (range 23 to 77). All tumours were IDH wild type; 53 were MGMT methylated and 40 unmethylated. Inclusion required age 18 to 70 and a Karnofsky score of at least 70. Extent of resection, overall and progression-free survival over a median follow-up of 72 months, and neuropsychological scores are reported.
Acquisition
Within one month of surgery, patients had a planning CT, FLAIR and post-contrast T1-weighted MPRAGE MRI, and PET after 300 to 500 MBq of [11C]methionine, started 10 to 15 minutes after injection and corrected for attenuation with CT. The images were co-registered. Scanner models and MRI field strength are not given.
Annotations
Contrast-enhancing residual tumour was measured on postoperative MRI. A biological tumour volume was defined on PET with a tumour-to-background threshold of 1.5, and SUVmax and TBRmax were recorded. Two clinical target volumes were outlined for radiotherapy, one around the cavity and residual tumour and one covering the FLAIR abnormality, and changes driven by PET uptake were noted.
Known limitations
- Not openly available. The Zenodo record lists no files, and access is granted only on request; whether the deposit holds images or only study tables is not stated.
- Single centre, with PET acquired after surgery rather than before.
- No scanner or field strength details are reported.

The Zenodo record is public but lists no files and its content is restricted. The record states that the raw data are accessible on request because they include sensitive data, and asks for requests by e-mail to the Humanitas library. Whether the files hold PET, CT and MR images or only the study tables is not stated. The article's data availability statement points to an IRCCS Humanitas Research Hospital dataset.
