Frontostriatal Reward Learning fMRI (IPCAS)

Imaging data for Non-invasive modulation of the frontostriatal dynamic loop enhances reward learning and alleviates depressive symptoms

Task fMRI of healthy participants performing a probabilistic instrumental learning task with reward, punishment and neutral outcomes (80 scanned), deposited with EEG and brain stimulation study data from the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, with restricted access through Science Data Bank.

Overview

This Science Data Bank record holds the data behind a study from the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, on how non-invasive modulation of the loop between frontal cortex and striatum affects reward learning and depressive symptoms. The associated manuscript (Science Translational Medicine, under review when the record was published) is not yet public. The record was deposited by Wang Feixue, Jiang Mingyan and Tu Yiheng, published on 8 July 2026, and curated by the Psychological Science Data Bank (PsyDB).

Composition

The record description is organized by study. In Study 1, Dataset 1 has 80 healthy participants scanned with fMRI during one run of an instrumental learning task, and Dataset 2 has 39 healthy participants recorded with EEG during two runs of the same task. In Study 2, Dataset 4 has 37 healthy participants split into active (20) and sham (17) stimulation groups, who did the task once before, during and after modulation and then rated stimulation-related sensations. The record does not say whether Study 2 was recorded with fMRI, EEG or neither, and it does not mention a Dataset 3. Whether the groups overlap is not stated. The deposit holds 395 files with about 1.51 GB in total. Age and sex are not given.

Acquisition

Participants chose between two novel visual stimuli on each trial and received probabilistic feedback, with reward, punishment and neutral trials interleaved and reward and punishment delivered at reciprocal probabilities of 0.7 and 0.3. Scanner, field strength, sequence parameters, structural scans, the stimulation method and file formats are not stated.

Known limitations

The cohort is documented only by the record description because the study paper is not published. Access is restricted to approved requests, and no license or terms of use are published. The file list is not visible without access, so the counts describe the study and not necessarily the files. The EEG data in Dataset 2 are outside the scope of this index's imaging fields.
